MAYA is a group for Christian unity and fellowship in Madison.
The heart and purpose of MAYA is unity for the joy of Jesus. We believe that through unity, God is glorified, His local church is served, and His love is revealed to our city.
MAYA exists to facilitate:
- Shared worship spaces so that the Church in Madison can glorify God together and fulfill the prayer of Jesus to all be one (John 17:21)
- Spaces of community, belonging, and Kingdom family for young adults
- Connections between churches and relationship bonds that will build up the local Church in Madison
HISTORY OF MAYA

2015: Young adults from Red Village and High Point Church have an inter-church Christmas party.
Fun is had and ideas for unity are birthed. In 2018, the first MAYA retreat is held at Honeyrock Camp.

2022: MAYA gets a rebrand, some more official leadership team structure, and more events, including a vision meeting, worship nights, water balloon fight, and the comeback of the MAYA Christmas party.

Continued retreats in northern Wisconsin, braving several snowstorms to get home. After a break in 2021 due to COVID, 2022 sees the MAYA winter retreat revived at Camp Awana.

2023 – 2025 : Our biggest retreats yet! Young adults from 30+ churches in the Madison area and beyond gathered for a weekend at Expeditions Unlimited. Themes were fellowship across lines of differences and the glory of God. Prayer teams ministered to individuals and new friendships were sparked.

Testimonials
“As I reflected over my year, I realized that the MAYA retreat was such a milestone, a beginning of a new work in my life, God brought some healing through prayer that weekend and most importantly it was the start of some important friendships with people from other churches that I would have never met otherwise. These friendships have turned into some beautiful life partnerships and community, prayer and worship nights and a broadening vision for the church in Madison.”
Tressa Spingler
“I went into last year’s MAYA retreat coming off a difficult two years…I found myself asking God if he saw me and if he really knew what I was going through. After pouring out my heart to God and letting that pain out for a while, I went up front for prayer. Through the words of that prayer, God just so clearly spoke to me. His is answer to my question “God do you see me?” was a resounding “yes”. It felt like just a huge hug from God, a God who cared for me as a perfect Father, and I left the retreat feeling just so filled with his love for me.”

FAQs
Is MAYA trying to be a Church?
Nope! It’s just a group for unity and fellowship. We are BIG believers in the local church and coming under the leadership of each of our pastors. However, we are also all big believers that Christians in Madison are the capitol “C” Church. We are Jesus’ body in our city, and as such, we strive to honor each other and God with our unity.
Is MAYA a club/cult?
Also nope! It’s just a group that plans events. No membership or culty requirements are involved.
How do I get involved?

What do you believe?
We are rooted in scripture, devoted in prayer, and invested in community.
- We believe that the Bible is the revealed word of God and is the source of Truth for how we relate to one another and to the Triune God by grace through faith (2 Timothy 3:16)
- We believe that prayer is essential in drawing near to God our Father and each other, that we’re empowered to do so by the Spirit, through the resurrected Jesus (Hebrews 4:14-16 and John 16:12-15)
- We believe, with the creeds, in one Holy Church, which Jesus left as His witness in the world. We are called to serve the Church ourselves and as an organization (Romans 15:5-7, Ephesians 3:17-23)
